1st XI move into the plate competition after first round loss

Neave/ Rouse Partnership The Only Bright Spot.

Liphook & Ripsley fielded a much changed side for their second game away to Hartley Witney in successive days, which did not prevent them going down by 41 runs in Round 1 of the Southern Premier Cricket League T20 competition.

James Beckwith 37 and Jason Knibbs 40 put on 62 for the first wicket for the home side, after Steve White’s fine juggled catch dismissed opener Hugo Hammond for 8 off the bowling of off spinner Harry Munt. Thereafter, the Hartley batting was little troubled in reaching 158-6. Chaz Janczur 2-31 hit the stumps twice late on for Liphook and there was also one wicket each for Andy Barnes, Dave Oliver and Tom Wild.

For Liphook, the wickets of Janczur, Barnes and Anthony White fell early, putting the visitors on the back foot. Only when Grant Rouse 20 and George Neave 31 (6 fours, 1 six) put on 53 in 21 balls for the 4th wkt did there appear to be a chance of an turn around. However, after both were dismissed with the total on 68, there was limited resistance, in spite of 17 each from Oscar Amis and skipper Sean Burton.
